Howard & Co, Boston, Series VII, 15J, N-S (just over 19S), heavy 14K gold box hinge original Jeanot & Shiebler HC with "G S" initial monogram to front, vermicelli and star pattern to front and rear perimeter, gold cuvette engraved "Presented to G. Stengel by Employees of the Monongahela Water Co., Pittsburgh, PA. on the occasion of his retiring from the position of Engineer & Superintendent held by him for 27 years, 1864-1891," glazed observation cover over mvt, white enamel SS dial, umbrella style hands, SW-SS, gilt mvt, s#216659. Gross weight of assembled watch 98.2 dwt (152.7 g). A beautiful piece with case having substantial in hand presence.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, fine cosmetic mvt condition overall, some haze to gilt surfaces, regulator assembled with some small bits of oxide, one case screw has lost nearly all of its head and should be replaced; flawless dial with some mild surface dirtiness; excellent hands, some oxide to tip of minute; case shows hardly any wear, fine to micro-fine scratches to front and rear, mild dent to upper perimeter of front which is more evident to inner surface of lid, excellent engraving detail, very small filed notch to inner lip of rear presumably from a past gold content test; tight bow, crown shows light wear; good glass front crystal, clean plastic rear crystal.
